Partnerships Continue with Fun (Mar. 2016)

Linwood Elementary, Forest Lake Area Schools
Grade 4 Classroom Partnerships wrapped up their exchanges for year at Wellstone Community Center where they were immersed in their new friendships and the connections were continuing with pen pal writing and technology integration. There are plans of getting together one more time in the spring!
First Grade Classroom Partnerships took place at Northpoint Elementary in Spring Lake Park as first graders were immersed in literacy and learning about what the other school looks like. Students will be working with their facilitator to create a double bubble map comparing the two schools after they go to Forest Lake in May!
Kindergarten Classroom Partnerships kicked off with students from St. Paul and Forest Lake Schools at Wellstone Community Center. Students were extremely engaged with one another, the artists (a dancer and an actor) as well as the hands-on lessons. The look forward to meeting each other again at their schools.
Our EMID field trip today went AMAZING! It was such a joy hearing almost all of the students today as we were leaving asking, "Can we come back here?" "Do they get to come to our school?" "That was so much fun!" "Ms. Pearl, we get to do so much fun stuff with you!" "What was my new friend’s name?" I didn't even have to pry them to tell me their favorite part of the day!!!! They seriously wouldn't stop telling me about it and talking about it (EVEN THOUGH I WAS RIGHT THERE WATCHING THE WHOLE TIME).
The other school being so culturally diverse, this made no difference in the eyes of your children. They were so excited to be having so much fun with new friends. Our shy friends were no longer shy! Going in to this I thought they might stick with the friends they know best in their group from Linwood, this was not the case they reached out to one another, whether it was to ask their name, grab a hand to dance, or even to guide one another.
This was one of the best experiences I have ever witnessed in my lifetime! I can not express how much fun our children had today thanks to the wonderfully enthusiastic EMID teachers involved and our new friends from Mississippi Elementary!
