Lovin’ Sisters Learn Through Special Events
Lovin’ the Skin I’m In learning program runs weekly in various school districts. All of the programs use the same curriculum but all have their own unique personality based on their advisors and the students. In November, Lovin’ programs attended two special events, The House on Mango Street at Park Square Theater and Women’s Business Exploration Day at WomenVenture. The House on Mango Street, follows Esperanza a twelve-year-old Mexican-American girl and chronicles a year in her life as she matures into a young woman, emotionally and physically. This show was chosen as a special event as it is very seldom that a major Twin Cities theater picks a production that has a cast of predominately people of color. After the show the students participated in talk back with some of the cast members to learn about their personal journeys, their careers in acting and theater, and to discuss topics in the play.
