High School Afterschool Programs Go To College
Students from Culture Club (White Bear Lake High School), Be the Dream (Woodbury High School), and Equity Alliance MN Youth Executive Board (YEB) attended colleges for a campus visit. The groups attended Minnesota State University Mankato’s Latino Engineering and Academic Day (LEAD), Minnesota State University Moorhead and North Dakota State University. Each of the visits offered a different insight into the college experience. At LEAD, students got to hear from Latino speakers that work in the engineering field which is vital to seeing themselves as future engineers.
Minnesota State University Moorhead offered a great campus tour which pointed out new spaces as the campus is growing, as well as sharing a wealth of information about the Fargo-Moorhead area.
North Dakota State University organized a great student panel that represented our student population which some of the panelist are from the Twin Cities Metro Area. The student panel had a great perspective on college life and life in Fargo, North Dakota. The importance of Equity Alliance MN coordinated college visits, is that many of the students would never visit these campuses or apply to these colleges if they didn’t have this opportunity.
