AVID PE/Health (July 2016)
AVID students in grades 9 and 10 from Inver Grove Heights Community Schools, Roseville Community Schools, Stillwater Area Schools and White Bear Lake Area Schools participated in a Summer PE and Health course for credit at Roseville High School. Students met for 5 weeks, 4 days/week and were immersed in the curriculum, met other AVID students from nearby districts and went on various field trips to support their learning. Students were able to explore outdoor education with Wilderness Inquiry, attend the University of MN Health department (and get an added college visit too) as well as Minnehaha Falls were interdisciplinary teaching took place.
Students stated that this was an amazing experience to meet new people and it allowed them to take more rigorous courses during the school year because it freed up an elective spot. Classes students said they were eager to take were AP, PSEO, Foreign Languages, Art and Music. They asked what would be offered next summer because they didn't want to miss out on the opportunity!
